Busy day: EU CPI at 12:00, US industrial production at 16:15 MSK

On October 16, the calendar has four reasons for movement at once: inflation in the European Union, US industrial statistics, the fifth day of the annual IMF and World Bank meeting with central bank heads participating, and a morning speech by Fed Chair Warsh.

Schedule in MSK

06:30 - speech by Fed Chair Warsh 12:00 - Eurozone consumer inflation (CPI) for September 13:20 - Citizens Financial (CFG) report 16:15 - US industrial production for September

What's in focus. Eurozone inflation data is a direct input for EUR/USD and European indices: it is from this figure that the market gauges how quickly the ECB is ready to move the rate. US industrial production is a narrower indicator, but the DXY dollar index and gold usually stir after it.

Background. The annual IMF and World Bank meeting continues in Washington - the fifth day in a row. Such weeks are dangerous precisely because of remarks in the corridors: central bankers talk a lot and off schedule. Separately on the calendar is the Europeans' meeting on Ukraine.

Earnings. In the US - Citizens Financial at 13:20 MSK. In Russia - Bank Saint Petersburg (BSPB) with its RAS report for 9 months of 2026 and X5 operating results for the same period. For MDMG this is the last day of trading with dividends.

Scenario A: the figures come out close to expectations, volatility spikes in the first minutes and fades.

Scenario B: Eurozone inflation deviates from consensus - then the move in the euro and the dollar stretches until the US session and overlaps with the statistics at 16:15.

Four events in a day - but the score is one

Such days usually go the same way: you sit at the terminal from morning to evening, catch two or three decent entry points and count the result in percentages. The percentage is decent, the sum is not, because it runs into the size of the deposit. In prop trading, the trading notional is provided by the company: the trader passes a challenge, gets access to an account and works for a share of the profit. It makes more sense to figure out this chain in advance, rather than on the day when the calendar is again packed until evening.
