US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $137.3 million on October 28. Almost all of that money went into a single fund - BlackRock's IBIT. Ethereum and Solana funds lost money the same day.
What a spot ETF is. It is an exchange-traded fund that holds Bitcoin itself, while its shares trade like ordinary securities. This way an investor gets BTC price exposure without wallets and exchanges. Daily flows into such funds are published openly.
Why a trader needs this. Across the three markets combined, the result was +$110.2 million. Flows show where big players' money is going and where it is leaving.
Who exactly bought?
Almost the entire inflow came from iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager.
- $136 million - IBIT, about 99% of the category's total daily volume
- $1.3 million - BITB from Bitwise
- Zero flows - FBTC (Fidelity), ARKB (ARK Invest) and GBTC (Grayscale)
In other words, this is not broad institutional demand but buying through a single product.
How long is the streak?
The positive run is now in its third straight day. Before October 28, there was $176 million on October 27 and $110.3 million on October 26.
- $423.6 million. That is how much Bitcoin funds gathered over three sessions.
- $773.5 million. That is how much investors withdrew on October 22 and 23.
- A little more than half. That is exactly the portion of the October outflow these three days have recovered.
What is happening with ETH and SOL?
ETH funds lost $21.4 million. This is the third negative session in a row. The picture inside is mixed.
- $44.8 million - left ETHA (BlackRock)
- $18.8 million - attracted by FETH (Fidelity)
- $3.6 million - Ethereum Mini Trust from Grayscale
- $1 million - MSSE from Morgan Stanley
The altcoin bottom line. Over three sessions, $170.2 million flowed out of ETH funds. Solana funds gave up $5.7 million.
How big is the market?
Since launching in January 2024, IBIT has gathered about $66.5 billion. FBTC has raised $10.4 billion over the same period.
- Almost $28 billion - accumulated outflows from the old GBTC
- About $57.7 billion - accumulated inflow across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs
- $12.6 billion - gathered by ETH funds since July 2024
Key point: institutional money is spreading across assets - BTC is gathering, altcoins are giving back. For report dates and major market events, see the economic calendar, and it is more convenient to build a trading plan for crypto volatility through the challenge selector.
Seen who actually moves BTC?
When a single fund brings in $136 million in a session, your own order for a couple thousand dollars looks ridiculous. It is not about analysis, it is about notional size. You can read flows and the divergence between BTC and ETH correctly, but a percentage is still a percentage: on a small account it remains a percentage. Prop trading changes only one link - account size: the company provides the trading notional, you pay for the selection and work by its rules for a share of the profit. ETF flows are published every day, so the next setup like this will already be here tomorrow.
