Silver rose 2.54% in a single session and is once again worth more than $50 per ounce. On Monday, November 2, XAG/USD is trading at $50.38 versus $49.13 on Friday. XAG/USD is the price of silver in dollars per troy ounce.

Gold did not follow silver. It is holding below $3,900 - at its lowest since October 2025.

This is interesting to a trader for one reason. Silver moves more sharply than gold, so it delivers moves on days when the other metals are standing still.

What does that look like in numbers?

  • +2.54% - the gain in a single session
  • $1.62 per gram - how much the price added in money terms
  • -29.13% - silver's result since the start of the year

A troy ounce is the standard measure for precious metals, 31.1 grams.

The rebound does not cancel out a disastrous year. Silver is still deeply in the red since January, and one strong day does not change that.

Why did the metal move?

  1. A weak dollar. It is being pressured by optimism around diplomacy over the US-Iran war. Metals are priced in dollars: when the dollar weakens, the ounce looks more expensive.
  2. Bets on the Fed. The market is pricing in that the Fed may raise rates because of accelerating inflation in energy.

Why did gold stay down?

Gold did not support the rebound. The price is below $3,900, near Friday's level, which was the lowest since October 2025.

  • from 78.87 to 77.41 - that is how the gold-to-silver ratio fell

This is how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold is worth. A falling ratio means silver is outperforming gold.

What does this mean for a trader?

The main point: silver is both a safe-haven metal and an industrial commodity. That is why it moves more sharply than gold in both directions: while gold stands still, XAG/USD can give you a 2-3% session.

The reference points have not changed. It is worth watching the news on the US-Iran talks and the Fed's rhetoric on rates. The dates of speeches and decisions are in the economic calendar, and you can pick a challenge for trading metals.

Did you look at this silver candle?

And he was most likely counting not percentages, but the ounces in his position. That is the whole gap: 2.54% on the metal only becomes money with a large notional, while on your own deposit it is a line in your trade history. Prop trading changes not the strategy, but the size of the account you execute it with. The company provides trading capital after a paid selection process and takes a share of the profit. It makes more sense to understand the mechanics before the next such session in metals.
