    Institutional flows are currently diverging between BTC and ETH

On October 6, U.S. spot crypto ETFs showed mixed dynamics. Bitcoin funds returned to inflows, while Ethereum funds lost more in a single session than in several previous days combined. In total across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, the day closed with an outflow of approximately $86.8 million.

Bitcoin received inflows again

Spot Bitcoin ETFs received $118.8 million in net inflows. The main contribution came from BlackRock's IBIT. The fund took in about $122.0 million. Morgan Stanley's MSBT added another $7.8 million. At the same time, Grayscale's Bitcoin Mini Trust saw an outflow of about $11.0 million. Several other major funds had no significant flows during the day.

Reversal after a weak session

A day earlier, Bitcoin funds lost $89.8 million. At that time, large outflows went through ARKB and FBTC, and the inflow into IBIT was not enough to push the category into positive territory. Before that, the picture was different. On October 1, Bitcoin ETFs received about $102.7 million, and on October 2, another $189.9 million. This shows that institutional flows in BTC are currently unstable and change noticeably from session to session.

Ethereum continues to lose capital

The situation with Ethereum looks significantly weaker. On October 6, $201.9 million flowed out of spot ETH ETFs. The entire daily outflow came from BlackRock's ETHA. For Ethereum, this is already the sixth consecutive negative session. During this period, about $408 million left the funds.

Why this matters

The difference between Bitcoin and Ethereum flows shows that large investors currently do not view the crypto market as a single block. Capital is being redistributed between individual assets. Money is returning to Bitcoin, while Ethereum continues to face sustained outflows. For a trader, this is more important than the overall crypto ETF figure, because the direction of institutional demand for BTC and ETH currently differs.

What is happening with Solana

Solana funds also closed the day in the red. The outflow was about $3.7 million. The main volume came from Grayscale's GSOL. A day earlier, Solana funds lost about $9.2 million.

What is happening with the Bitcoin price

On October 6, BTC traded around $85,297, losing roughly 0.6% during the session. The price continues to be pressured by a strong dollar. At the same time, the return of inflows into Bitcoin ETFs has not yet led to a strong reversal in the price itself. The market will need several consecutive positive sessions to speak of a sustained recovery in institutional demand.

What's next

Three things remain under watch:

  • whether inflows into Bitcoin ETFs continue;
  • whether the streak of outflows from Ethereum continues;
  • whether flows will start moving in sync again across major crypto assets.

If the divergence between BTC and ETH persists, it could become a separate factor in Bitcoin's relative strength against Ethereum.

Did you see these numbers and hold your position?

ETF flows help you understand where institutional money is going, but the outcome of a trade still depends on position size and risk management. Prop trading allows you to pass a challenge and gain access to a large trading account from the company without needing to accumulate comparable personal capital. It's better to understand the mechanics in advance, before the next strong divergence in flows.
