Musk called the Cybertruck Tesla's best vehicle, and the project's lead engineer, Wes Morrill, said its technologies will carry over to the Cybercab.

US sales estimated by Cox Automotive: 38,965 units in 2024, 20,237 in 2025 (-48.1%), and in the first nine months of 2026, 11,586 versus 16,097 a year earlier (-28%). In Tesla's reporting, the model is hidden in the Other Models category: in the third quarter of 2026, there were 8,295 vehicles there versus 12,364 in the second.

Reasons cited by Reuters: weak demand in the mass market, repeated price revisions, recall campaigns and quality complaints. The stainless-steel body with sharp edges complicated approval for sales in Europe due to pedestrian safety requirements. The model was shown in 2019, and deliveries began only at the end of 2023.

What will take its place: the Cybercab, a two-seat vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals for a robotaxi network. Production started in April 2026, and in September Tesla launched commercial rides in certain areas of Austin. Production volumes and the amount invested in retooling the plant were not disclosed. On September 4, 2026, NHTSA (the US auto regulator) began an inquiry into the basis on which Tesla itself deemed a vehicle without conventional controls safe.

This is already the third model-lineup purge this year: in January 2026, the discontinuation of Model S and Model X was announced, and the Fremont plant will be retooled for Optimus humanoid robots. In the third quarter, Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 478,237 deliveries out of 486,532, i.e., 98.3% of all vehicles.

Musk called the Cybertruck the best Tesla vehicle, and the project's lead engineer, Wes Morrill, said its technologies will carry over to the Cybercab. The company's money is made by two mass-market models, while the stock's valuation is increasingly driven by news about autonomy and regulatory actions. TSLA is one of the heavyweights of the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, so index holders feel such headlines too.

Do you trade TSLA on headlines like this?

The headline came in the evening, but the price had already acted on it by the open - that's how it usually goes with stocks. But not every prop firm offers US stocks: some lists include only currencies, gold and indices, some don't allow holding a position overnight, and some have a separate closed reporting period. These points determine whether you can even trade such stories on the company's account at all. Checking them with a filter is faster than finding out after a block.
