Week breakdown. $320 million left Ethereum funds, while $229 million left Bitcoin funds. For Bitcoin, this is the second consecutive week of outflows; for Ethereum, the third.
Scale. A week earlier, the outflow was even larger — $1.22 billion, meaning the pressure has eased but has not reversed. For comparison, over the whole of 2026, Bitcoin funds have taken in only $259 million in net inflows, and Ethereum funds $610 million: October alone wiped out the yearly result for ETH.
Price. At the time of publication on October 19, Ethereum was trading at $2,433 (-5% over 7 days), Bitcoin at $82,783 (-1.3% over the week). ETH is falling noticeably faster, and the fund outflows confirm this.
Other altcoins. Money is leaving everywhere, but the amounts are smaller: Solana — $26 million, Zcash — $19 million, Hyperliquid — $18 million, XRP — $1.8 million, BNB — $285 thousand.
What this means. Exchange-traded funds are the main channel through which institutional investors' money enters crypto. When that channel is working on the way out for several weeks in a row, the market loses its constant buyer, and any downward move goes through more easily. It is worth watching whether the streak breaks this week.
Saw this drop, but your position was small?
A week of institutional money outflow is exactly the phase when the market moves widely and ideas come on their own. The frustrating part always comes down to one thing: 5% on ETH on a two-thousand-dollar deposit is a hundred dollars, which wasn't worth sitting at the chart for. In prop trading, the account size doesn't come from savings: you pass the challenge and get the company's capital to work with. If the mechanics are still unfamiliar, now is a calm moment to figure them out.
